Woman Struck by Car, Killed

Woman killed today while trying to jump-start car.

From Farmington P.D.: Today at approximately 1:54 p.m. Farmington police responded to the Kmart parking lot in reference to an individual who had been struck by a vehicle. Officers Booker, Lillywhite, Mosley, King and Jemmett arrived on scene and found a female pinned underneath a car. The officers lifted the vehicle off the female and began life-saving measures. Sadly, the 46-year-old woman from Farmington succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Officers conducting the investigation learned that two females were leaving the Kmart parking lot when their vehicle died. One of the females stepped to the front of the car in an attempt to get it started. At this time the car accelerated and struck her.

The Farmington Police Department would like to express their deepest sympathies to the victim’s family and friends.

    The initial call was received at 5:23 AM. The individual was identified from video surveillance. The male was contacted by Durango Police Department Patrol and is now in custody. He has been identified as Joe Brinkerhoff, a resident of the City of Durango. Due to a prior incident, Joe Brinkerhoff was trespassed from the property and his Rec Center privileges were suspended.

A warrant was issued to charge Heather Fernandez-Hoefer. She was taken into custody without incident on April 1, 2025.

    Upon arrival, deputies made contact with multiple individuals including juveniles and young adults and located a deceased individual identified as Samuell Tariq Liggins, age 20.
