Suspect Identified from College Lockdown

The security guard confronted 33-year old Carlos Perez, who then got into his personal vehicle, pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the security guard. Perez fled the area traveling south on College Boulevard. Shortly after, he attempted to return to campus. Officers apprehended Perez at College Boulevard and Campus Avenue. Perez was booked and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  He is being held at the San Juan County Detention Center.

Farmington, NM – Today at approximately 10:54 a.m. Farmington police were dispatched to San Juan College in reference to an individual with a firearm.  Campus security saw the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Carlos Perez, attempting to enter a security vehicle. The security guard confronted Perez, who then got into his personal vehicle, pulled out a firearm and pointed it at the security guard. Perez fled the area traveling south on College Boulevard. Shortly after, he attempted to return to campus. Officers apprehended Perez at College Boulevard and Campus Avenue.

 

Farmington Police Chief Steve Hebbe expressed the importance of having an officer on campus, “For the past couple years, FPD and San Juan College have worked closely to improve security for students on campus. That work has included the assignment of a full-time officer to the college campus. Events such as these demonstrate how important that relationship is. While we are very pleased this incident ended without any injuries, we are committed to continuing building that relationship to keep students safe.”

 

Perez was booked and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  He is being held at the San Juan County Detention Center.
