Repeat Offender Charged with Murder

Suspect Arrested in Flora Vista killing of Karen Cugnini.

San Juan County, NM – On October 1, 2015, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 200 block of County Road 3050 in reference to a female who was found to be found unresponsive.   Deputies and Medics arrived to find 69 year old Karen Cugnini deceased.  Through the investigation Detectives were able to identify that Karen’s vehicle a 2003 white Ford F-150 was stolen and she appeared to have suffered from a single gunshot wound. 

The investigation lead to Karen’s F-150 being located in Kirtland, NM, and to the suspect being Rick Stallings (50 year-old Farmington man), a warrant was issued for Receiving a stolen vehicle.

On October 3, 2015, Detectives were able to track Rick Stallings to 804 Ouray Ave, where members from San Juan County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and Farmington Police Department SWAT Team surrounded the residence and were able to take Rick Stallings into custody.  Michelle Every (44 year-old of Farmington) was arrested for outstanding warrants and Lewis David Gutierrez (51 year-old of Farmington) and home owner of 804 Ouray Ave was also arrested for harboring a felon and felon in possession of a firearm. 

On October 6, 2015, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Rick Stallings for;

  • Murder in the 1st degree
  • Aggravated burglary (armed with a deadly weapon)
  • Larceny (over $20,000)
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Larceny of a firearm
  • Unlawful taking of a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Disposing of stolen property (firearm)
  • Theft of identity
  • 3 counts of Theft of credit cards
  •  

Rick Stallings will be held without bond.

Our suspect is a perfect example of the failure of our justice system, which allows a dangerous repeat offender to continually roam our streets until an innocent victim is killed.  For those that don’t understand look at his record and his progression and escalation in violence which is by fueled by methamphetamine.

  • Suspect Arrested in Farmington Murder Case

  • Police: Farmington Child Abuse Suspect Killed in Home

    Video

    Officers canvassed the area for the suspect; however, investigators believe the individual left the area prior to police arrival. The Farmington Police Department is releasing a video of a person of interest. The video shows a male on a bicycle headed east on Navajo Street towards Lincoln Avenue. The Farmington Police Department urges anyone with information or video surveillance from the area to contact detectives at 505-599-1068.

    The $2.2 million Student Health Center spans 2,652 square feet and is designed to provide accessible healthcare services on campus. The center features two exam rooms, three offices for medical and behavioral health professionals, restrooms, storage areas, and additional support spaces.

  • Farmington Couple Accused of Severe Child Abuse

    Reports indicated the child had been locked in a chicken coop for extended periods and exposed to extreme weather conditions. Detectives immediately responded, removed the child from the home, and gathered evidence corroborating the allegations.
