5 Teens Arrested after Burglary, Gun Brought to School

During the investigation no statements were made from the suspects stating the weapons and ammunition were to be used in an act of school violence.  The District Attorney’s Office was contacted and the Juvenile Probation Office authorized a hold on all five juveniles for the following charges:

From Farmington Police:

School resource officers with the Farmington Police Department were contacted yesterday around 1:00 p.m. at Piedra Vista High School in reference to a student with a handgun and ammunition on school property. The officer contacted the student, a juvenile male, who had a pistol, ammunition and paraphernalia indicative of gang involvement in his possession. 

 Detectives and members of the Gang Unit responded to the school; the Gang Unit responded based on the gang associations and firearm information. Through investigation, detectives learned that five juvenile males had burglarized a home on the north side of Farmington. School resource officers, gang officers and patrol officers worked to quickly locate the other four juveniles involved in the burglary. At least two firearms, along with several other items, were stolen from the residence. Detectives and crime scene investigation responded to the residence and processed the scene. A suspect vehicle was located and towed from Lions Wilderness Park, and a search warrant was executed by CSI and detectives. One firearm and several other stolen property items were located in the vehicle. Several detectives collaborated to interview the five juveniles and obtain search warrants for backpacks containing other stolen items. 

 During the investigation no statements were made from the suspects stating the weapons and ammunition were to be used in an act of school violence.

 The District Attorney’s Office was contacted and the Juvenile Probation Office authorized a hold on all five juveniles for the following charges:

 First 15-year-old was charged with Aggravated Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Burglary and bringing a firearm on school campus

 Second 15-year-old was charged with Aggravated Burglary and Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Burglary

 Third 15-year-old was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Burglary, Accessory to Aggravated Burglary and carrying a weapon on school campus

 Both 17-year-olds were charged with Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Burglary and Accessory to Aggravated Burglary

    Around 3:40 am, Sunday, November 9, San Juan County Fire & Rescue was dispatched to reports of a structure fire on Road 3546 in Flora Vista.     The need for the route was identified in the Statewide Public Transportation Plan and will run between Albuquerque, Farmington, Bernalillo, Cuba and into Durango, CO. The new service line will run five days a week, with one round trip each day, providing access to Navajo Transit and Red Apple Transit in Farmington.

  • Two Fatally Shot in Durango, Suspect Shoots Self

    Durango Police say that both victims from Monday night's shooting, Shelby Campbell (32) and Emma Sims (32),  have passed away from their injuries. The suspect, Bradley Campbell (32), remains on life support with a gunshot wound to the head.  Durango Police Detectives continue to investigate this incident, but there is no indication that anyone else was involved.

  • Murder-Suicide in busy Durango shopping area

    Bystanders immediately called 911, prompting an emergency response from the Durango Police Department, La Plata County Sheriff's Office, and Durango Fire & Rescue. First Responders arrived within minutes and began life-saving measures on both individuals. Both were transported to Mercy Hospital, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
