On April 5th, 2023 at 8:59pm, San Juan County deputies were dispatched to the Highway 64 Auto Salvage (4551 US64) in reference to two found bodies. When deputies arrived on scene, it was apparent that the two decedents died as a result of a homicide. The decedents are identified as Anthony McCants (26) and Candrick Begay (31).

At 4pm, Anthony and Candrick were assigned to be out in the yard pulling parts. Later that evening, employees began to look for the two when family members called concerned that they hadn’t heard from them. Employees began to search the large area and located them on the property.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division is actively investigating this case and ask that anyone with any information about the incident call the Detective’s Tip Line at 505-333-7878. We would like to extend our condolences to both families and are committed to bringing the person(s) involved to justice.

We are aware that the decedent in Farmington Police Department’s officer-involved shooting worked for Highway 64 Auto Salvage and we believe that they are completely separate events with no correlation to one another.
