Public Arts Events at San Juan College presents the first in their new Chautauqua Series: Laura Gilpin, Photographer, as portrayed by Deborah Blanche. This is a FREE EVENT! Seating is first come, first served, at the Connie Gotsch Theatre. Reception to follow!

In this show, meet Laura Gilpin as she appeared in 1954, narrating images from her pioneering Lumière color prints and her acclaimed book, "The Enduring Navajo", while sharing the stories behind the lens. Miss Gilpin traversed rugged landscapes, hauling her gear on horseback to photograph the source of the Rio Grande. She captured striking portraits of society women, instructed pilots to "fly low" over Shiprock to capture its distinctive light and shadows, and documented the timeless beauty of the Navajo people.
